Hello, I’m Lesley Sutton and I am a Chartered Accountant and Tax Advisor. I specialise in providing tax advice to families and owner managed businesses.
Tax features in almost every part of our lives from birth to death. Most people will first engage with an accountant or tax advisor when they set up a business. Tax advice at this stage is invaluable to ensure that the right business structure is used both for now and the future, and also to make sure that you are making the most of any tax reliefs that are available to you.
As your business grows so does the type of tax advice needed. You may need to employ staff, register for VAT, bring in external investors or plan how you pay yourself. A mature business may also need tax advice relating to business acquisitions, joint venture arrangements, succession planning or selling the business. However, the tax advice I provide is not just related to businesses. I also work with families looking at all sorts of issues including things like succession planning and asset protection. Whether you are getting married or divorced, having your first child or sending her off to University, buying an investment property or looking to give your wealth to others, good tax advice can help you and your family to structure your tax affairs efficiently and also to stay compliant with HMRC.
Sadly, there are also times when things go wrong and HMRC are knocking on the door. I can help by taking away the stress and worry of dealing with HMRC, often also substantially reducing the amount of tax thought to be due.
I am a director and shareholder in Revell Ward Ltd, an independent firm of Chartered Accountants. Our base is in Huddersfield but we deal with clients all around the country. We are very proud of the fact that we have an all-female Board and shareholder group, which is quite unique in the accounting profession. We are keen to support and assist fellow female entrepreneurs in business.
Outside of work I love travelling, reading (I have a guilty passion for personal development books!) and enjoy listening to music of all kinds. I have also recently re-discovered my student obsession of sewing and am enjoying designing and making my own clothes. If you have a specific tax query or would just like to find out if tax advice would be relevant to you and yours then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
