The Institute of Coding The Institute of Coding (IoC), led by the University of Bath, is a large national consortium of government, employers, educators, and outreach organisations that is co-developing new courses and activities to help a larger and more diverse group of learners into digital careers through higher education. The IoC’s partners have created more than 150 courses in a variety of flexible and accessible formats, many of which are available online, that will help you to gain in-demand digital skills. Whether you are new to digital, expanding your skills, or are a manager looking to upskill your team, the IoC has worked with top employers to design training that matches your needs, including industry-inspired taster sessions, degrees, short courses, and more. TECH RETURNERS Looking to return to your career in tech? FREE programmes starting Autumn 2021 and Spring 2022 Tech Returners is a positive and empowering organisation. We provide skilled tech professionals returning to the industry accessible opportunities to refresh your skills. Through a range of programmes, resources and development tools we help reignite your career – back to and through technology. Our organisation is committed to removing the barriers returners face after career breaks. We tackle the digital skills shortage by empowering skilled people back into technology careers and providing continuous support on your journey through technology and into leadership. Our ‘Return to Tech’ programme offers the UK’s only fully accessible, up-skilling route back into technology for mid-senior software engineers. Combining industry leading knowledge replicating real commercial environments, alongside career development and support from expert coaches. Our programme isn’t just about coding. We’ll work with you to provide the technical skills and personal skills needed to re-enter the sector and prepare you for the right role, for you. The lectures are delivered by a remote learning model utilising tools such as Google Classroom and Zoom. We promote accessibility by providing flexible re-skilling options at zero cost. The programme is currently delivered over 8 weeks (2 evenings per week), which equate to 5 hours lecture time and 15-20 hours additional project work. The vision of the programme is to replicate the commercial environment by up-skilling whilst developing and delivering a Tech for Good project (which you will liaise with the sponsors on throughout the time period). Re-skilling in front end framework React alongside backend API creation and AWS Cloud services. Delivered alongside platform engineering skills such as infrastructure as code, and monitoring led by Tech Returners CTO/Co-Founder and Lead Tech Coach James Heggs. In addition, you will be supported by career coaches who will provide you with CV advice, interview preparation, mindset, confidence and resilience development. During the programme you will engage with our sponsors in lightning talks, sprint reviews and remote office tours, all designed to enable your effective transition back into technology. We’re looking for individuals with previous experience in the technology industry who are ‘returning’ to a software engineering role after a career break of six years or less.
