How to gain more PR for your business

Trying to gain more publicity for a project or some company news can seem like a daunting task, especially if you are new to the industry. But, if you are passionate about your brand and want to take it to the next level, it is important that you spend some time seriously thinking about your PR.

Whether you intend to have a go on your own, or hire someone to do it for you, here are some helpful steps to get your business more media coverage…

Have a stand-out idea

If you want to gain better press for your company, then you must invest some of your own time in coming up with a newsworthy ‘hook’. If you’re passionate about what you do it can seem like an easy task to do this, however don’t let your idea become clouded by what you want to say (or sell) – always consider what you think your target audience would want to read.

Keeping your idea unique is also a great idea, because anything that has already been done frequently before may result in a lack of coverage.

Look for the relevant contacts

Do your research before sending anything to or calling a specific journalist, so you know who is best suited to receive your content. A good way of doing this is by searching on social media, reading the magazine or newspaper you are targeting to find out who covers certain stories, or downloading the online media pack and features list.

When you have established who you want to contact, build up a list of these people for future.
Keep producing content

You should always try to produce new material – whether that be to send to the media, or simply for your own blog – to ensure your brand is active and stays relevant. Even when you don’t receive a lot of coverage for your article, don’t give up!

Try to think of relevant industry news stories that you could comment on and pitch these to journalists when things seem to be quiet on the PR front – having some general ideas up your sleeve to send is a great way of getting extra media exposure for your brand.

Get noticed

Keeping the conversation going with people from the press can generate an almost word-of-mouth style of promotion – something that will get you noticed without it seeming forced. If they ever get stuck for content, and you have made yourself known, it could be that they simply approach you for content, which is great!
Having a strong digital footprint links nicely with this point. Having multiple accounts for your business on social media and having an active blog can be incredibly beneficial, and increase your chances of being noticed.

These few simple steps will really help you enhance the media coverage for your firm. Or, if you’re on the lookout for a PR company to help you to do this, these points will cement what it is you want to achieve, which will mean you hire the best firm for your brand!
