Make your own DIY Velvet Pumpkins
Materials needed:
- Soft stretch velvet or crushed panne velvet in your preferred colours
- Cardboard or a large plate to create a circle template
- Scissors
- Needle and thread
- Fiber fill or stuffing
- Small weight (e.g., dry rice)
- Real pumpkin stem or plastic stem
- Hot glue gun (if using a plastic stem)
- Soft stretch velvet or crushed panne velvet in your preferred colours
- Cardboard or a large plate to create a circle template
- Scissors
- Needle and thread
- Fiber fill or stuffing
- Small weight (e.g., dry rice)
- Real pumpkin stem or plastic stem
- Hot glue gun (if using a plastic stem)
Instructions:
- The first thing is to choose your fabric: Select soft stretch velvet or crushed panne velvet in the colours that match your different colors in decor or preferences for your favourite things.
- Create a circle template: Find a large plate or use a permanent marker to draw a circle on a piece of cardboard. Cut out the circle to use as a template for your pumpkins. Note that the size may seem large, but the finished pumpkins will appear smaller once filled and stuffed. Different circles will give you different sizes to match your design needs.
- Cut out the circle: Use the cardboard template to cut out a circle from the velvet fabric.
- Stitch the circle: Place running long stitches around the outer edge of the circle, leaving a long tail of thread at the beginning and end. These stitches will help create the pouch for the pumpkin.
- Form the pouch: Gently pull the thread from both ends, which will cause the circle to gather and form a little pouch.
- Add weight: Place a little weight, such as dry rice, at the bottom of the pumpkin pouch to help the pumpkin sit well and maintain its shape.
- Fill the pouch: Stuff the pouch with fiber fill or stuffing until the pumpkin reaches your desired fullness.
