The Best Places for Afternoon Tea in Derbyshire – Local Mum’s Guide (2025)
As a local Derbyshire mum who’s tried out many of these afternoon tea spots with my kids (and sometimes just for a quiet treat to myself 🙈), I always recommend signing up to each venue’s newsletter before you book. Around key dates like Valentine’s, Mother’s Day or even half term, many places send out exclusive offers or early booking perks to their subscribers 💌. Plus, it’s a great way to hear about new menus, seasonal events, or last-minute table openings — especially if you’re planning something special. For more foodie inspiration, check out our full guide to Afternoon Tea in Chesterfield or pair your treat with a family visit to one of our favourite Farm Shops in Derbyshire.

Traditionally, What Is Afternoon Tea ?
For a special occasion take your mum for some quality time with a sweet treat, a place to book for baby showers, or meet up with your friends for an afternoon childfree with prosecco, a refreshing pink gin spritz, or a flute of fresh orange juice! An Afternoon Tea should traditionally include light cakes, scones and sandwiches with crusts cut off, along with traditional sandwich fillings, egg mayonnaise, cucumber, coronation chicken and cress, smoked salmon. However as time has moved on and people have put their own spin on the Afternoon Tea there will be one to suit every taste. Looking further afield check out afternoon tea in Chesterfield or afternoon tea in Nottingham.

Denby Pottery Village – Afternoon Tea at Bourne’s Coffee Shop & Bistro
If you’re looking for a charming afternoon tea experience, Denby Pottery Village is a must-visit. Their Bourne’s Coffee Shop & Bistro offers a selection of afternoon teas, including traditional and savoury options. The traditional afternoon tea features freshly prepared sandwiches, fruit or cheese scones with jam and cream, a slice of homemade cake, macarons, and a fruit garnish, all accompanied by bottomless tea or filter coffee. For those preferring savoury delights, the platter includes pork pie, sausage roll, cheese scone, slices of ham, cheese, beef, crusty French baguette, and a salad garnish. Children are not left out, with a mini afternoon tea designed for ages 3 to under 12, featuring sandwiches, homemade cakes, treat-size brownies, and a choice of drinks. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are available upon request. Bookings should be made at least 48 hours in advance.
This is one of my favourite experiences with the kids as they also do a kids afternoon tea. Just the best day out.
