Most disposable wet wipes aren’t biodegradable, so it could take 100 years or more and when the UK alone goes through tens of billions it’s a very sobering thought to a legacy we are leaving behind not just for our children but for our children’s children.
So where do all these baby wipes go?
# Aqua Clean Wipes The Biodegradable Choice
“1 baby equals approx. 15000 wipes a year and with over 650,000 babies born each year, the numbers are staggering!” Aqua Wipes
Most disposable wet wipes aren’t biodegradable, so it could take 100 years or more and when the UK alone goes through tens of billions it’s a very sobering thought to a legacy we are leaving behind not just for our children but for our children’s children. “
When I had my first child I had no idea about the impact that wet wipes and nappies had on our environment, I assumed they took a few more years to degrade but nothing like 100 or 150 years. If I am honest the convenience of using nappies and wet wipes outweighed the desire to look into it further after all in our modern-day society the thought of reusable cloths didn’t appeal to a busy life as a working mum.
After my daughter came along in 2020 and with what is happening in our world I realised this had to be key as this is the world I have brought my child into and I have the responsibility to ensure I do what I can for their future world. But at the same time, I wanted to have that ease but with a product that had a significantly less environmental impact.
So what if it told you there was an eco-friendly alternative product that has no plastic and no harmful chemicals? Are 100% biodegradable in 15 days and compostable baby wipes so they break down quickly and effectively, leaving no trace, and are vegan-friendly?
After we all learned about microbeads in our face washes and the catastrophic impact of microplastics on our world we realized that not every brand cares as much about our planet as they do their profit! It’s shocking to think we are still making wet wipes that are not biodegradable and contain plastic!
A research survey found that 90% of wet wipes contain plastic. Plastic is being dumped in landfills, and oceans yearly and at the rate, they are used and the time it has taken to degrade this is stomach-churning damage to our world and animals.
We were lucky enough to chat with the Aqua Wipes experts and find out more about biodegradable wet wipes give them the Eliza wet wipe test and trust me that’s a test!
Aqua Wipes Our Review
We all know the panic when trying to clean up your little one especially when you brave it without the changing mat or on the fly. The ability to get these wet wipes out fast and easily without bringing the whole packet with you is key. Along with having wipes that are not going to tear having the right amount of moisture without the need to faff about peeling them apart or needing to use more as they aren’t wet enough.
It also felt very much like using cleansing cloths leaving my baby’s skin soft and knowing there are no harsh chemicals just makes you feel confident in using it on her skin. Especially when it’s time crucial to clean up and you have a definite clean up in front of you! They are not only a great alternative to disposable wipes being great for the baby and the planet. But when it comes to performance they outperform my standard conventional wet wipes that are non-biodegradable baby wipes for Eliza.
We tried all the ranges and I couldn’t fault them each time they cleaned up well I didn’t feel like I needed to use extra for cleaning those messes up. They were wet enough to be quick and not pull on her skin and tough enough to not rip when used. They have a lovely soft feel to them but retain the feel of high quality and are more than suitable for everyday use with the right size of packets for everyday use and some smaller handbag size for those out and about days, as well as those big cleans. Personally, for me, they are a great choice for me and my family and a sustainable alternative that will leave us with a happy planet!

Side note:
Although we wouldn’t ever recommend flushing down the toilet like you would toilet paper, there are some flushable wet wipes on the market. Make sure to double-check whether your biodegradable wet wipes can or not before you start to clog up your sewer systems and end up with some serious plumbing issues, we would always recommend the general waste bin instead.
Please be aware if you ever flush wet wipes all too often they end up clogging up sewage systems, damaging marine life, and littering our beaches.
