How to get Great Skin at Home

Want to know how to get great skin at home ? Then read on.

The skin is the body’s largest organ; it represents 15% of our body weight and helps to give us appearance and shape. It has many highly important functions such as protecting the body from the environment, preventing excessive water loss, regulating temperature and protecting the body from infection. The skin works hard to keep you healthy and so the least we can do is to return the favour and take care of it.

So, in one sentence how do we accomplish this?  Feeding the skin essential nutrients to keep it functioning internally and using appropriate external products to assist the skin’s natural functions. Sounds easy, but there is so much conflicting information that it can be confusing to know what your skin actually needs. Here are a few simple tips we suggest following to give your skin a helping hand:

Sun Protection

The sun can make us feel good and provides us with essential Vitamin D. However, the sun is one of the most ageing external elements the skin is exposed to; even when the sun is not visible we are still subjected to low levels of UV light.  Long-term UV exposure can cause skin damage seen as wrinkles/fine lines and hyperpigmentation. More worrying, exposure to the sun can cause precancerous and cancerous cells, so protection is vital. We would recommend using a daily sun factor of a minimum SPF 30 such as HeliocareAdvanced SPF50 cream priced at £17.99 or ZO Smart Tone SPF50priced at£52.50

Use skin care products for your skin type

Our skin is unique and everybody’s skin can need and want different things, so it is important to use the right products for your particular skin type. For example, an oily skin type may require regular exfoliation whereas a dry skin may need a gentler approach. The best way to find out your skin type is through a skin analysis consultation; where the history of your skin is reviewed, your (make-up free) skin is examined and your skin type analysed.

Internal Health

Nutrition and great skin are very much related and we should never underestimate the power vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients play in delivering healthy skin. Eating the correct balance of foods including a range of fruits and vegetables which contain powerful antioxidants that help to protect skin. A phrase which has stuck with me is: ‘Eat the rainbow’.  Unfortunately, not referring to the Skittles sweets but instead eating a rainbow of colours in various forms of fruit and vegetables. I recommend also taking a daily supplement, for example Skinade priced at £99 for 30 day course.

Night Time Cleansing

It is so important that we cleanse our skin at night to remove the make-up, dirt and debris that build up on the skin throughout the day. While we our soundly asleep our skin is actually working hard to reverse everyday free radical damage through cellular renewal a great time on how to get great skin at home. So, cleaning your skin before you hit the sheets is one of the best things you can do to give your skin the opportunity to repair, recover and renew.ZOOffects Exfoliating Cleanser priced at £29.50 orDermaquest Essential Daily Cleanser priced at £28.00
