Our Family Visit to The Sandcastle Waterpark in Blackpool – A Splash-Filled Adventure!

Please note we were invited as guests, so the water park was closed during our first hour (My kids’ dream!), which allowed us to have permission to take photos before it opened to the public.
We were invited as guests to experience The Sandcastle Waterpark in Blackpool, and what a treat it was! We made sure to add it to our family weekend in Blackpool. Not only did we get exclusive early access before the park opened to the public (a total dream if you’ve ever queued up with kids in tow), but we had the entire place to ourselves for a while—something we won’t forget in a hurry.
We started the day with excited energy. Kimi had been talking about the Master Blaster all morning, while Eliza just wanted to find
the “big boat” and splash! With our Splash. Cash wristbands loaded and lockers sorted, we headed straight to the little kids’ zones to ease into things.
Eliza immediately found her place at Shimmerin’ Shallows and HMS Thundersplash. The shallow water, small slides, and interactive features were perfect for her age, and the big tipping coconut in the Caribbean Storm Treehouse had her giggling every time.
Meanwhile, Kimi was testing his courage. He began with the Treetops Water Chutes
before building up to the Dueling Dragons. By this point, his confidence was flying—and with just a little encouragement, he went for the Master Blaster. I stood below,
clutching my towel and watching him go higher and higher. That drop! But he came out grinning, eyes sparkling, and ran back to queue again… three more times! Meanwhile, Kimi was testing his courage. He began with the Treetops Water Chutes before building up to the Dueling Dragons. By this point, his confidence was flying—and with just a little encouragement, he went for the Master Blaster.

He wasn’t done yet. After some encouragement and a promise of an ice cream, Kimi took on the Sidewinder. When he shot down the half-pipe and burst into laughter and pride he did it, is one I’ll never forget, it was incredible to see his bravery and confidence grow.
After all that, we floated around Ushi Gushi River Creek, letting the gentle current and pour buckets give us a much-needed breather. Eliza loved the mini waterfalls, while Kimi pretended he was steering a jungle boat.
We ended the day with a splashy session in Typhoon Lagoon. The wave pool was such a joy. Kimi darted in and out of the waves while Eliza clung to me, laughing and splashing until her teeth chattered. It was the perfect way to round off our adventure.
For families like mine—with different age groups and just one adult—it can be challenging to find a place that works for everyone. But The Sandcastle honestly did. Safe, fun, clean, and packed with variety, it hit every mark for an unforgettable day out.
One thing I appreciated was that life jackets were readily available and always were in good supply. With Eliza being younger, this gave us both the confidence to enjoy everything safely.
As a mum taking the kids out solo, I’m always looking for spots that cater to both my 10-year-old thrill-seeker and my 4-year-old water baby. The Sandcastle absolutely delivered. At entry, each guest receives a Splash Cash wristband—a game-changer for families:
- Locker access: Digital lockers mean no keys or coins to worry about.
- Cashless payments: Load your wristband with credit to pay for snacks, drinks, or items from the gift shop. Any unused money is refunded at the end of your visit.
It made things so much easier and meant we didn’t need to dash back to the changing rooms every time we needed a snack or drink.
What’s Inside – Rides, Slides, and Splash Zones
There’s so much packed inside The Sandcastle that you could easily spend the whole day there without getting bored. Whether your kids love high-adrenaline rides or gentle splash zones, there’s something for every comfort level.
For the Thrill Seekers (8+ years, 1.2m min height):
- Master Blaster – High-speed rollercoaster slide that Kimi absolutely adored.
- Sidewinder – The near-vertical half-pipe slide that brought out a belly laugh we’ll never forget.
- Aztec Falls – A dark, swirling corkscrew slide for confident riders.
- Montazooma – Fast with twists and turns, ideal for thrill-seekers.
- Dueling Dragons (Barracuda & Serpent) – Enclosed, fast twin slides are perfect for older kids like Kimi.
Family-Friendly (6+ years, 1.0m+):
- Thunder Falls – Long, winding chutes that offer a splash without the terror.
- Treetops Water Chutes – These were our warm-up slides—Kimi loved racing down them.
All Ages:
- Ushi Gushi River Creek – The lazy river that gave us all a moment to float, relax, and giggle under the pour buckets.
- Typhoon Lagoon – A firm favourite to end the day, with wave after wave of fun for both the brave and the cautious.
Little Ones’ Zone (Toddlers to 7 years):
- Shimmerin’ Shallows – Great for splashing and water play without overwhelming younger ones.
- HMS Thundersplash – Eliza’s favourite, complete with mini slides and a “big boat” feel.
- Caribbean Storm Treehouse – Full of tipping buckets, gentle sprays, and the sound of laughter.
- Fort Riptide – A smaller, quieter play space tucked in for toddlers needing a break from the buzz.
- Lagoon Bay – Another toddler-safe splash zone perfect for crawling or first steps in the water.
Each area is well-signed, lifeguarded, and very clean—something I always appreciate when I’m on my own with the kids. There’s so much choice that even if one area feels too busy or loud, you can wander over to another section and still have a fantastic time.
