Where is Thornbridge Brewery

Bakewell, at the Riverside Industrial Estate

MMB Magazine review of Thornbridge Brewery

We had just spent the day at the grounds of Thornbridge Hall and Gardens with the kids and looked to drop in to pick up some beer to enjoy with our barbecue in the evening on our way home; if you haven’t visited Thornbridge Brewery, you’re missing a trick, and that isn’t just about the beer it’s the whole experience! If you are lucky enough to have a babysitter, it could be a great night out with live music, beer, and food.

When we drove up to the venue, we first thought had we got the correct location as we drove into an industrial estate. But as we parked the car and walked up to the venue, it had that edgy Boston bar feel; it was packed outside in the sun from friends and family meeting up to walkers taking a refreshment break. Inside is vast with a great layout of tables and that edgy feel inside, and you can only imagine how light it is on a night with great music. There is an excellent merch bar to the side with some fantastic and well-thought-out merchandise that is hard to resist.

The bar servers a number of their unique beers with friendly service and help find the right first beer and new beer to try (for the non-drivers!). They will talk you through the flavours and how they hit, from the more traditional styles to tart citrus fruit and biscuity malt to a floral hop flourish! We also realised they did amazing pizzas cooked on-site in the pizza oven! So we grabbed a table and some drinks and ordered our pizzas. The kids were entertained with the football table to the side while we waited for our pizzas, and they were beyond worth the wait!

About Thornbridge Brewery

Our first time visiting through, although we have had it on our radar for a while. Thornbridge Brewery is like that cool friend who’s nailed the craft brewing game and is excellent at pushing boundaries of how we drink craft beer and what to expect, the type of fabulous venue you expect to see in Boston. Seriously, they’ve snagged awards from every corner of the world. In 2005, they dropped their first batch of Thornbridge-branded goodness, all thanks to a little 10-barrel setup at Thornbridge Hall.

The Hall Brewery’s done its thing and packed up, but guess what? The show is not over! They popped up a shiny state-of-the-art brewery in Bakewell in 2009, all to keep up with the insane demand and to whip up an even more killer range of beers. And have they grown? Thornbridge’s brewing prowess has gone through the roof. They’re pumping out an insane range of ales, lagers – you name it – in casks, kegs, and bottles, and now they’re even riding the can wave along with some seriously cool merchandise.

Thornbridge Beers

Thornbridge beers have the finest quality beer and cask ale from Imperial IPA, India Pale Ale, Porter, Lager, Sours, ESB’s, Brown Ale, Quadruple, Saison, Red Ale, American Amber, DDH IPA; you name it!

To name a few: Jaipur x / Green Mountain / Lukas/ Chiron Pale Ale / Czech Mates / DDH Halcon / West Side Story / Tropical Swan / Chula Vista / Heliolater / Lucaria / Wild Swan / Wild Raven /

Thornbridge Pizzas & Events

Take advantage of the Thornbridge Taproom right by the Brewery at Riverside Business Park in Bakewell. They’re serving up the freshest brews straight from the source and amazing artisanal pizzas. Check out the pizza menu here. They taste great with an ice-cold beer. They are dog friendly, and the kids had a great time on the football table after their pizzas; we will be back, hopefully without the kids, for an evening gig!

Keep an eye on their website, as they have an awesome lineup of events from handpicked gigs, laid-back Brewery Socials, brain-teasing Weekly Quiz sessions, and groovy Open Mic nights.

The Taproom isn’t just about the in-the-moment goodness. You can take a slice of Thornbridge home with you too. Bottled treasures, awesome gifts, and swag – they’ve got it all. From funky orange Jaipur socks to the Jaipur Barbecue sauce with so much flavour, there are even funky dog leads, cycling tops, and some fantastic merch.

It’s like keeping the Thornbridge spirit alive no matter where you go, and it’s incredible to see a Derbyshire business doing so well. This is one independent we should be getting out to support.
