Liverpool is packed with indoor museums and cultural spaces that offer something for every age. Plus, many are clustered around the Royal Albert Dock — which is partly under cover and lovely for a rainy wander (bring a brolly for in between!).

Dinosaurs, aquariums, bug houses and space zones – for free. It’s huge, central and always a winner when the weather’s grim. Our favourite new addition when we visited last month was the Dinosaur wall, where you can design and upload your dinosaur to see it walk across the screen.

Museum of Liverpool
Right on the waterfront, full of child-friendly exhibitions, sensory spaces and big windows to watch the ferries go by.
This is a great museum, so much to do, and lots for kids to interact with, and always on our things to do in Liverpool with teenagers list.
Merseyside Maritime Museum
Just next door and ideal for school-aged children. Lots of hands-on exhibits about ships, Titanic, and seafaring stories — perfect for mini historians.
International Slavery Museum
Located within the Maritime Museum building. Powerful, educational and best for older children or teens.
Tate Liverpool
Modern art with family-friendly exhibitions and occasional kids’ workshops. Also, within Royal Albert Dock, it is easy to pair with other visits.

If you haven’t done it, it’s a great idea. Kimi and Eliza both loved it, especially Eliza at the interactive bits at the end of the tour. They loved the gift shop too. Older kids will spend more time with the audio, but it’s a fab little find, and if you have the budget, a must-do attraction.

Lush Spa Liverpool – Mini Sessions
OK, hear me out – some Lush stores offer kids’ bath bomb-making or scent-blending workshops. Double win if you need a moment, too. It’s the largest in the UK , just a walk around feels like a mini adventure, and Eliza loves to sit and watch the bath bombs go by on the conveyor.

Don’t skip Albert Dock just because it’s raining! The wide walkways are partly covered, and the atmosphere is brilliant in any weather. You’ll find:

🧳 Mum Tips for a Rainy Day in Liverpool
- Always carry a spare pair of socks for everyone (trust me).
- Pre-book the soft play area when you can – it fills up quickly on rainy days.
- Pack snacks to avoid snack-bar meltdowns.
- Waterbottle bringing them can seriously cutdown on costs.
- Use central car parks, such as Q-Park Liverpool ONE, for easy access.
